Scuderia Ferrari - the history

Scuderia Ferrari is the oldest and most successful team currently competing in Formula 1. They are based in Maranello, Italy.

Founded in 1929, the team started making its own cars in 1947, after running Alfa Romeos until then. They were part of the inaugural World Championship in 1950 and are the only team to have competed in every season in the competition's history. They started the season with the Ferrari 125 , regular drivers being Alberto Ascari and his mentor Luigi Villoresi. Frenchman Raymond Sommer would also appear in a third car at certain events.

Throughout its history in the F1 circus, Ferrari has won the driver's title fifteen times and the constructors' championship sixteen times.

Drivers who won the Championship while driving for Ferrari were Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Mike Hawthorn, Phil Hill, John Surtees, Niki Lauda, Jody Scheckter, Michael Schumacher and Kimi Räikkönen.

For the 2014 season, Ferrari launched the F14 T, the team's first turbo car since the F1/87/88C in 1988, which was driven by former Drivers' World Champions Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen.

For 2015, Alonso was replaced by Sebastian Vettel, four times World Champion, while Räikkönen retained his place.

Räikkönen was replaced by Charles Leclerc for 2019. Afterwards Vettel was replaced by Carlos Sainz, Jr., in 2021.
